Birmingham bus stabbing: Police launch murder investigation after victim died from injuries

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed on a night bus in Birmingham.

Police were called by a member of the public at around 10.43pm last night claiming a passenger was attacked.

Emergency services attempted CPR but the man, aged in his 30s and not yet identified by police, died from his injuries a short time later.

The suspect is described as black, around 30 years old, and was wearing a baseball cap and padded jacket.

Rookery Road in Handsworth, the scene of the crime, was closed off this morning as forensic officers investigated.

Police are asking anyone who travelled on the number 11A bus, heading towards the city centre, and who may have seen what happened, to call 101 or, if outside of the West Midlands Police patch: 0121 626 5000. Alternatively, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Temporary Superintendent Tom Chisholm from CID said: "The investigation is in the early stages but it is believed the man was stabbed following an altercation between him and the offender on the upper deck of the outer circle No 11A bus as it travelled along Rookery Road in Handsworth.

"I am appealing for anyone who was travelling on the bus last night and who has information or anyone who saw the offender after leaving the bus to call police.”
