Birkenhead tunnel reopens after lorry hits wall

Birkenhead Tunnel has reopened after lorry hit a wall.

The emergency services were called out to the Queensway Tunnel at around 8pm last night following reports of an accident.

A police spokesman told the ECHO that a lorry hit an interior wall. There were no reports of any injuries.

The tunnel was closed while police made the scene safe.

Last night travel information service INRIX reported: "Queensway Birkenhead Tunnel out of town closed due to police incident from Liverpool to Birkenhead.

"The road has been closed since Tuesday evening."

Today a Merseytravel spokesman told the ECHO that the tunnel reopened at around 1.40am today.
