Birkenhead's Fun in the Sun Festival cancelled due to a "let down with funding"

Birkenhead Park’s popular Fun in the Sun Festival was expected to return this summer - but organisers have confirmed that the festival will not go ahead.

The family festival was supposed to take over the park on July 14, with entertainment from X-Factor alum Sam Bailey, rock band Insanity Beach and Welsh singer Liss Jones.

Now, organisers have taken to Facebook to announce the cancellation.

The statement read: “Hi Everyone, We are very sad to announce that we will be cancelling this years event due to the weather the ground of the park and being let down with funding.

“Any tickets brought through us or ticket quarter will be refunded.

“Just give us a message. Sorry about the inconvenience.”

The festival was returning for the first time since 2016, with live music, arts and crafts stalls, funfair attractions and food and drink outlets.

Fans of the festival have taken to commenting on the post, revealing that they are "So sad" and "Absolutely gutted".

Anyone with tickets should contact Fun in the Sun Festival directly for refunds.
