Birds of Prey: Margot Robbie confirms full title of Harley Quinn film – and it's a mouthful

The full title of the forthcoming Harley Quinn film has been revealed – and it’s a mouthful.

Lead star Margot Robbie shared a picture of the film’s script on Instagram with written title: Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Warner Bros – the studio behind the DC films – has since confirmed the film’s official name as the above.

The film will begin production in January 2019, with Robbie set to be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez. The former will play Huntress.

Ewan McGregor will play the film’s villain, Black Mask, with the stunt team behind the John Wick films, Atomic Blonde, and Aquaman set to work on the action sequences.

The project is based on DC’s Birds of Prey comics, which teams Quinn with the likes of Black Canary and Barbara Gordon. In the comics, Barbara Gordon works under the codename Oracle, but the film may have her appear as Batgirl to tie in with the character’s own solo film currently being developed.

The film has already made history by tapping Cathy Yan to direct; she won the job over a number of well-established male directors, having only just completed her directorial debut Dead Pigs, which screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. However, her presentation reportedly made a huge splash with executives.

Robbie first appeared as Quinn in David Ayer’s 2016 film Suicide Squad. Her on-screen lover, the Joker, is the subject of a brand new film from The Hangover director Todd Phillips. He’ll be played by Joaquin Phoenix.
