Birds Eye is looking for a new Captain - and your face could be on fishfingers

They have been a go-to freezer product for decades and now you could be a part of fish finger history.

It sounds a bit weird, but it does actually make sense.

Birds Eye, who were the first to create the now breaded fish stick in 1955, are on the look out for a new Captain Birdseye.

The frozen food specialist has teamed up with Iceland to run the nationwide competition to find the new face of its popular products.

Captain Birdseye has been the brand's sailor mascot having appeared in countless television and billboard adverts but now it could be you.

This could be you! (PA)

Birds Eye and Iceland are looking for a super-savvy shopper that can whip up a delicious meal while saving money and reducing food waste.

Part of the ad for the competition reads: "Did you know the average household wastes £500 worth of food every year? Buying more frozen food means you can help reduce food waste and save money too!

"Iceland and Birds Eye are looking to celebrate a household hero who uses frozen food to create delicious meals, save money and reduce food waste."

So what is it you win?

One winner will be chosen as the new temporary face of Captain Birds Eye and see themselves on thousands of pack of Birds Eye Fish Fingers in Iceland.

So if you don't tell your friends and family, they'll get a surprise when they head to the frozen isle.

As well as that, the winner and two runners up will receive £100 of Iceland shopping vouchers PLUS a year's supply of Birds Eye Fish Fingers.

Fish finger butties for all, then?

All you need to do is nominate yourself or someone you know via the Birds Eye website and tell them how you or the person you are nomination uses frozen food to reduce household waste and save money.

Entries close on Thursday, January 29 so don't leave it too long.

If you do win, you'll see your face on the product later this year.
