Family-run Birds Bakery has revealed plans to open a new store in a former launderette - with a cafe.
Sausage rolls, bread, and cakes will be sold from the premises in Melton Road, West Bridgford - making it a second shop for the town.
Fourteen new jobs will be created at the premises which will have seating for 24 customers and a purpose-built hot serving counter showcasing the bakery’s ‘food to go’ offering.
The new opening will make it the bakery’s 62nd store in the East Midlands - and the second in West Bridgford.
Mike Holling, Birds' sales and marketing director, said it will open in the spring.
“We are delighted to be opening our latest store in the popular location of West Bridgford,” he said. “This will be our second store in the area, with our first store on Central Avenue being incredibly popular since opening in 1984.
“Melton Road is the perfect location for us, surrounded by local shops. It will attract local residents passing by, as well as those travelling to and from Edwalton and surrounding areas with car parking on site.”
The latest store will feature a number of seating areas, including cafe style chairs and tables as well as comfy sofas in the bay window, when coronavirus restrictions are lifted.
Mr Holling added: “We are committed to investing in our stores and despite the current circumstances, we have seen a positive reaction to our take-away offering, showing that people are still looking for sweet treats and feel-good food.”
Opening hours will be 8am-5pm Monday to Saturday.
