Birds Bakery to open a new Nottingham shop at prime city centre location

Family-run bakery Birds is marking its centenary year by opening a new shop in the heart of Nottingham city centre.

The Derby-based company will be setting up a branch in the former H. Samuel jewellers shop in Lister Gate, which has been refurbished since its closure earlier this year.

The bakery, known for its freshly baked loaves and cobs, sausage rolls, doughnuts, cheese scones and custard tarts, also has city centre shops in intu Victoria Centre and The Poultry.

Shop fitters will be starting work on-site on Monday with the aim of opening in around four weeks' time.

Mike Holling, Birds' sales and marketing director, said: "We are very pleased to be extending our coverage in Nottingham. It's a good location and visually it's very impressive.

"It will be very much food to go in our new style."

Commercial property consultant FHP revealed the news on Instagram, saying "Deal done - say hello to your new Birds Bakery coming soon to 2 - 4 Lister Gate."

Birds has also acquired a property for another new shop at Chilwell's West Point Retail Park, off Nottingham Road, which is set to open mid-October.

The bakery serves 20,000 customers a day at its 60+ shops across Notts and Derbyshire, including branches in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Beeston, West Bridgford, Newark and Long Eaton.
