Biotech firm Biofortuna relocates to Wales where it plans major expansion

Biotech firm Biofortuna has relocated from the Wirral to North Wales where it plans to double it workforce as part of a multi-million-pound investment.

The manufacturing of diagnostic tests, used globally for conditions from Covid to lung cancer, has moved to new facility at Deeside Industrial Park in Flintshire. Its new operation has doubled its manufacturing capacity with a humidity-controlled clean room allowing it to produce more than 10 million tests per week.

The company, which currently employs 31, plans to double its headcount over the next 12 to 18 months.

Biofortuna has delivered year on year growth - manufacturing tests for devices that do not need laboratory analysis and provide an instant result.

Its chief executive Dr Nick Ash said: “This multi-million-pound investment demonstrates our ambition and commitment to become the sectors’ leading support specialist, helping our customers to accelerate their diagnostic development programmes from concept to commercialisation.”

Head of sales, Paul Williams, said: “This facility will position Biofortuna as one of the leading outsourced providers of genomic services, custom assay development and contract manufacturing.

“We expect to create up to 30 jobs in Deeside over the next 12 to 18 months. They will include roles across the whole business including assay development, manufacturing, project management and sales. 2

Chester based Chartered Surveyors Legat Owen assisted Biofortuna with its property search.
