Bins and hedges searched in hunt for gun after man 'pulled weapon in argument'

Forensic officers continue to scour a street in Wallasey this afternoon after reports a man pulled out a gun during an argument.

Merseyside Police were called to Wright Street after residents alerted the authorities to “an alleged sighting of a firearm”.

The gun is understood to have been spotted just after 7am and officers immediately arrived on the scene to cordon off the area.

Witnesses who live on the road reported seeing armed response vehicles "flying down the road".

One resident told the ECHO : "I saw all the armed response vehicles come flying down, so I knew something serious had happened.
"A lot of kids live in this street.

"It’s scary."

Five hours on from the reported incident police including, forensic officers and matrix officers remain at the scene.

A cordon has been stretched across the road and one resident said they had been asked to move their car to make Kinglake Road a "temporary two way street".

In pictures taken at the scene forensic officers can be seen scouring the street in a search for evidence.

Matrix police in blue gloves are currently searching in bins on the street which is occupied by a lot of families and have been spotted foraging in hedges and looking over walls.

The section of road which has been cordoned off is also been thoroughly probed.

Forensic officers have also been focusing their attention on the houses inside the cordon and have been seen taking pictures inside the front gardens of homes.

It is understood that no weapon has currently been discovered and there has been no suggestion of shots fired.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that armed police have been called to Wallasey this morning.

“Just after 7am, a disturbance was reported on Wright Street with an alleged sighting of a firearm.

"Officers are currently at the scene and we are advising people to avoid the area.”
