Binmen blasted after rubbish strewn across Irvine street on collection day

Binmen in North Ayrshire have been blasted for allegedly leaving an Irvine street strewn with rubbish this morning.

Empty bottles of wine and prosecco; food containers and cans of juice were spilled outside two Ravenscroft homes following this morning's collection.

And this isn't the first time, claimed one brassed-off resident in the area.

The local, who asked not to be named, said: "This is the third time the street has been left in this state in the past six weeks.

"My neighbour's grandchildren like to play outside but it's getting dangerous because of all of the smashed glass.

"By the time I cleaned it up there was glass on the road which could damage people's cars.

"Myself and another neighbour had to clean up the binmen's mess every time. It's not good enough!"

The resident says they have complained on the 'Report It' app but got no response.

"Someone came out to have a look but we'd already cleaned it up by the time the came round," they added.

"We weren't spoken to or given an apology; we all pay our council tax and this is just ridiculous they are leaving this mess."

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Our collection crews do an outstanding job, uplifting an average of 20,000 bins each day. Unfortunately, there may be occasions where spillages occur for many different reasons, such as bins being blown over in windy conditions.

“When spillages that require a bigger clear-up occur, the crews report this to their foreman at the end of the shift who then arrange to have the area cleaned by Streetscene.

“We can confirm that our Streetscene team has been made aware of this particular incident and will respond appropriately.”
