Binman filmed cheating death as he's dragged into rubbish truck in freak accident

A binman was seconds from death when he was dragged into the back of a rubbish truck - before managing to scramble to safety.

Terrifying footage shows the worker being lifted into the vehicle while dumping what appear to be planks of wood in the back, Birmingham Live reports.

He is then pulled deeper into the lorry, before being saved by his pal who rushes over and stops the machine.

The binman then manages to climb out, with his colleague offering him a helping hand to get down.

It is unclear where exactly the incident took place in the city but BirminghamLive has been told from a source it is at a refuse site in Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council  is currently investigating the incident.

A man who wants to remain anonymous sent the video to BirminghamLive and has links to the bin collection service in Birmingham.

He said he believed the video was taken at the end of October last year.

The source added: "I was shocked when I saw this. The binman is literally a second away from being crushed to death.

"If his colleague hadn't seen what happened and rushed to his aid he would probably be dead. This incident needs to be investigated by Birmingham City Council. It is shocking."

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said: “Health and safety is of paramount importance to us for both our employees and the residents they serve when going about their daily duties.

"We are currently investigating what led to this alleged incident and are therefore unable to comment on specific details.”
