Bingham salon closes after almost 20 years in business due to 'rising costs'

A Nottinghamshire salon has announced it is closing its doors for good after almost 20 years in a town centre. The Vanity Rooms in Bingham will be closing on Tuesday, May 30, due to rising costs making the business "unsustainable."

During the coronavirus restrictions the business operated solely as a cocktail bar for many weeks, until they were able to reopen in full. In this time the owner organised events, such as fashion shows and cocktail tasting nights.

In an announcement to her customers, the owner of the business, Hannah Mather, stated: "Like so many small businesses right now, I have been battling with the increased rising costs making the business unsustainable.

"I have tried everything imaginable to try and prevent closure, but with each new idea, new treatment, pivot that I put in place, I’m then hit with another extortionate cost. These are costs that are eating into any profit that the business is making."

She continued: "The Vanity Rooms has been at the very core of me since I was a 22 year old girl starting on her journey of self employment. I started from the bottom up and had to build my clientele from scratch.

"Yes I did almost throw the towel in but I persevered and organically built a business. A business I am proud of!"

Hannah took over the salon at age 26 more than a decade ago, and has since employed and trained up 20 girls and apprentices who have gone on to have their own successful careers. She stated that she is "incredibly thankful and grateful" to each of her customers, who have supported the small business and her team.

She continued: "We are busy, which makes this entire situation so heart breaking, but this decision has not been made lightly. My “Vanity” girls have always been at the forefront of my mind.

"They have been aware of the financial difficulties the salon has faced and they stuck by me. They have been here until the very end when they could have left for job security."

However, Hannah explained that whilst "devastated" to close the business, this is just the beginning of something new. She stated: "Whilst the overheads have been crucifying my business, this does not mean we are not in demand.

"I am stripping it all back and going back to how it all began by renting a room within KEW Beauty Clinic." Hannah's new business, Rejuvenate Beauty, will be located at the clinic, which is just 45 seconds walk from her former business premises and still on the market place.
