Binevenagh Mountain: Woman clinging to edge of cliff rescued in multi-agency operation

A woman has been rescued after she was found clinging to the edge of a cliff in Co Derry.

In the major rescue operation on Saturday evening, June 26, several agencies from across the country joined forces to complete safely rescue the woman who was found 'clinging to the edge of a cliff' at Binevenagh Mountain.

Among those called to the scene were Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard teams who issued a brief statement after the person was brought to safety.

They posted on Facebook: "Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Teams were tasked at 21:30 on Saturday evening to a person clinging to the edge of a cliff at Binevenagh Mountain. In a major rescue operation coordinated by Belfast MRCC, a coastguard rope rescue technician was lowered 150 feet to secure the casualty before she was winched to safety by R118 Irish CG helicopter from Sligo.

"Also in attendance were PSNI, NIAS, NW Mountain Rescue Team and Community Rescue Service. All the agencies worked closely together to ensure a good outcome to a very difficult rescue in challenging terrain."

Members of the public on social media praised the heroic actions of all the agencies involved on securing a positive outcome.
