Bin raiding emu ruffles feathers in Livingston

The sight of an emu raiding a bin in Livingston is one of the more unusual sights you’ll ever see.

But that’s just what local woman Lara Thomson captured on Tuesday.

She couldn’t believer her eyes when she spotted the massive bird at a bus stop on Bangour pecking through rubbish in a bin.

Lara, who stays in Carmondean, posted on Twitter: “Living in Livingston you get used to seeing some strange things, an emu raiding the bin however is a new one.”

The emu is thought to have wandered from the local HOPE Scotland animal assisted therapy centre in Bathgate.

Her Tweet has since gone viral, gaining over 1,700 likes, more than 250 retweets and 100 comments.

She told the Courier: “Everyone on Twitter informed me it’s an emu, I thought it was a young ostrich.

“It’s one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen - and Livingston isn’t short of bizarre sights.”

Her post left users left in stitches.
Gavin Hamilton replied: “Sorry - that’s just off the scale for ‘strange things’ what is going on?”

Davy Catchalot said: “Times are hard for Emus these days.”
And Bob M added: “It must’ve been fed up waiting for the bus!”
