Bin collections in Nottingham hit by Covid-related staff absences

Bin collections in Nottingham have been once again adversely affected by coronavirus.

Nottingham City Council released a statement saying some garden waste bin collections may be missed on Tuesday, August 17, as a result of staff absences.

The issues come just two weeks after similar issues hit bin collections in the city, with frontline services "very-thinly stretched" as staff members were pinged by the NHS Covid-19 app.

New rules have since been introduced for if someone is contacted by NHS test and trace or pinged by the mobile app following outcry.

This includes those who are double-jabbed and those under 18 now no longer having to self-isolate.

They are instead advised to take a PCR test.

Contact tracing alerts sent in Nottingham have started to decline according to the latest data, dropping from 4,981 people in the week to July 21 to 2,664 in the week ending August 4.

However, some services are still being affected.

Nottingham City Council says: "Covid-related staff absences has affected our garden waste collections in some parts of the city today.

"Please continue to put your garden bin out as usual, but if not emptied please take it back in until the next scheduled garden collection.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."
