Incoming Laois senior football manager Billy Sheehan has confirmed two former county teammates as his selectors.
Brian ‘Beano’ McDonald and Chris Conway will join the Kerry native, who played extensively for his adopted county, starting under Mick O’Dwyer, after he was chosen by the selection committee as the man to succeed Mike Quirke last week.
Between the three of them, Sheehan, McDonald and Conway regularly formed half of the Laois attack from 2004 on while a third selector, Gerry McGill, comes from the Emo club, who Sheehan lined out with throughout his Laois career.
Since retiring from inter-county football, Sheehan has been involved with Cork and Offaly in coaching roles.
The management team will be ratified at a county board meeting on Monday night and county chairman Peter O’Neill called for patience to be afforded to them.
He said: “As players, their dedication and commitment to the county jersey was second to none and I am sure that the present and future county players will benefit greatly from their experiences and knowledge.
“They will be working to rebuild our county’s fortunes and in line with that, will need time to develop a squad that will bring silverware back to Laois.”
