Billy Ray Cyrus teams up with Lil Nas X for ‘Old Town Road’ remix and … it’s really good

“Old Town Road” is a song that’s gone through a heck of a journey in its short life. The hit from Lil Nas X found an audience on TikTok, then started climbing the Billboard Country charts … until Billboard decided that it wasn’t “Country” enough, whatever that means.

Or, well, if you look at Lil Nas X and then the rest of the Billboard Country charts, you can take a guess at what that actually means.

From Pitchfork:

A Billboard spokesperson later stated that the “decision to take the song off of the country chart had absolutely nothing to do with the race of the artist.” In response to the event, Lil Nas X said that the single should be considered a country song and a trap song. “It’s not one, it’s not the other,” he told Time. “It’s both. It should be on both.”

Anyway, Billy Ray Cyrus has now come in to lend his stamp of approval to the song, recording a remix with Lil Nas X … and it slaps. It really, really slaps.

Here’s video of the two of them in the studio:

Two outlaws making a song to take you into the weekend. Enjoy it.
