Billy Koumetio sends Jurgen Klopp reminder as Liverpool Champions League decision awaits

Billy Koumetio sent a timely reminder to Jurgen Klopp on another impressive evening for Liverpool's Academy.

Koumetio was among the scorers as the Reds' under-18s romped to a 4-1 win over Burnley at Kirkby on Tuesday evening.

Oakley Cannonier, summer signing Mateusz Musialowski and 15-year-old Ethan Ennis also found the target to move Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side back to the top of the U18s Premier League North table.

It was further evidence of the feelgood factor surrounding the Academy at present, with graduates Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Caoimhin Kelleher all starring for the first team in their Champions League win over Ajax at Anfield on the same night.

With Liverpool having secured first place in the group with a game to spare, Klopp is expected to give more youngsters an opportunity for the final group game in Denmark against FC Midtjylland next Wednesday.

And 18-year-old centre-back Koumetio, who featured for the first team during pre-season, could be among those to come into the reckoning.

The defender notched his goal against Burnley when heading home a Dominic Corness corner midway through the first half.

Corness had already provided the assist for Cannonier's opener with a fine first-time pass to release the attacking midfielder.

Musialowski struck three minutes after the break when found by James Balagizi and substitute Ennis headed home late on from full-back Sean Wilson's cross.

However, goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga was denied a clean sheet with almost the last kick of the match when Sam Unwin netted a consolation for the visitors.

Liverpool U18s are next in action on Saturday when they are away at Manchester United (kick-off 11.30am).

LIVERPOOL U18s : Pitaluga, Wilson, Norris, Miles, Koumetio, Corness, Balagizi, Frauendorf, Cannonier (Ennis 65), Woltman, Musialowski (Stephenson 74). Subs: Mrozek, Mabaya, McConnell.
