Billy Horschel slams 'brainwashed' LIV defectors and fires warning to golf rebels

Loyal PGA player Billy Horschel says that those professionals who have joined the rebel LIV Golf circuit will find it hard to enter Tour events.

The 35-year-old American has joined Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods in criticising fellow professionals who have joined the Saudi-backed opposing tournament series. This comes after a California judge refused to allow three banned LIV players to play in the FedEx Cup play-offs, which started on Wednesday.

"I've said to some of the guys personally, I think they've been brainwashed," said Horschel speaking to the Golf Channel ahead of his first round at the FedEx St Jude Invitational.

"The way they feel so adamant that they're going to be back on the PGA Tour. I've had some of them (LIV Golf members) tell me, 'I'll see you on Tour again.' I said, 'No you won't.''

Horschel has spent 12 years on the PGA Tour taking seven wins with his last coming at the Memorial Tournament in June. The following month he hit out at LIV Golf rebels before the Genesis Scottish Open.

This was after a group of banned defectors - led by Ian Poulter - filed a legal battle against DP World Tour boss Keith Pelley and the Wentworth-based tour to overrule their punishments, which proved successful.

Horschel said at the time: “I believe they made their bed. They decided to go play on that tour and they should go play there.

"They shouldn't be coming back over by DP World Tour or the PGA Tour. To say that they wanted to also support this tour, Whether DP or PGA Tour going forward while playing LIV tour, is completely asinine."
