Billy Gilmour swaps Norwich City for non-league as he returns to Scots roots

Billy Gilmour swapped new club Norwich City for a taste of non-league football yesterday as he returned to his Scots roots.

The Scotland star took in two matches in his home county of Ayrshire a day after joining the Canaries on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old midfielder was spotted in New Cumnock as Glenafton Athletic took on Whitletts Victoria in a pre-season affair then later in Ardrossan as his hometown team Winton Rovers entertained Benburb in a friendly.

And the rising star quickly became the centre of attention after being spotted by starstruck fans.

Down-to-earth Gilmour was only too happy to take time out to chat to supporters and even pose for pictures.

Among those to get a cherished snap with the former Rangers youth at Glenafton's Loch Park were young brothers Mason and Noah Rush.

Dad Derek said: "The boys support Glens, Rangers and Chelsea so Billy really made their day!"

Just for the record, Glenafton ran out 4-0 victors against Whitletts while Ardrossan WInton Rovers beat Benburb 1-0 to win the Dennis Donnelly Memorial Trophy.
