Billy Gilmour shrugs off Chelsea return talk as Norwich loanee addresses Dean Smith recall

Delighted Billy Gilmour is delighted to be back getting minutes for Norwich after his top-team recall.

The Scotland star was starting for the first time in nine weeks after being frozen out of the squad by former boss Daniel Farke.

But incoming boss Dean Smith saw things differently and immediately drafted the Chelsea loanee back into the eleven against Southampton.

He was repaid for the decision as the 20-year-old set up Grant Hanley's winner and the Canaries climbed off the bottom of the English Premier League.

Many had expected a return to Stamford Bridge in January for Gilmour, but the playmaker insists he is happy at Carrow Road.

He told the club's website: “I'm happy to be back playing.

"It’s been a while since I’ve put on a Norwich strip and played in front of the fans but it was a great win, we took that on from the Brentford game and there was a real togetherness.

“It was my first win so I was buzzing with that and I’m sure the fans were too.

“My first Premier League assist from the corner. That was for Grant who scores on his birthday so I’m happy to do that.”
