Billy Gilmour's first words after joining Norwich City on season-long loan deal from Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour insists he is looking forward to 'playing as much as possible' after completing his loan switch to Norwich City.

After almost a fortnight of speculation and talks, the Scotland international was officially unveiled as a Norwich player on Friday morning, joining the Canaries on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 season.

A temporary move to the Norfolk-based club will give Gilmour the chance to play regularly in the Premier League and earn some valuable experience of playing week in, week out.

Now that the deal has officially been completed, the Scotland ace has spoken of his delight to get it over the line, as well as looking forward to getting his teeth stuck into the challenge.

"I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead," Gilmour told Norwich's club website. "I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League.

"I spoke to the head coach [Daniel Farke] here. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in. Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football.

"He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help. There are very exciting times ahead, coming in for pre-season and seeing all the lads. Let’s get to it."

Gilmour also admitted that it was always his ambition to secure more regular first-team minutes once last season had come to an end.

"With me, I wanted to play more regularly," Gilmour continued. "Hopefully I’ll do alright in training to get more game time in the Premier League and to show that I’m ready."

Gilmour has joined fellow Scots Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean in Norfolk, meaning he will have quickly learned the inside track of how the Canaries operate from his time with them on the international stage at Euro 2020.

He added: "With Grant, as soon as I came into the Scotland setup, he was with me every day and pestering me.

"No, he was just talking about how good the club was and I was asking him questions. Kenny McLean was texting me, saying ‘are you coming?’ and then when I told them I was coming, they were really happy for me."
