Billy Gilmour's breakthrough Chelsea season in doubt as young Scot picks up injury

Scottish wonderkid Billy Gilmour looks to be out for the rest of the season after sustaining an unfortunate injury.

The former Rangers starlet was subbed off with 10 minutes left in Chelsea's 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday having been preferred to Italian playmaker Jorginho in midfield.

And The Sun report that was due to a knee injury that could spell the end of his stellar season.

It's now unclear whether he'll be able to feature at all before the campaign comes to a close in the English Premier League with the final day on July 26.

The Stamford Bridge club have four league games remaining plus an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United and the final if they progress.

But Gilmour, who has broken into the Blues' first team this campaign under Frank Lampard, may not play any further part.

He was handed his first-team debut in August with an appearance in a win over Sheffield United.

And just before coronavirus hit he began to start for the London side, including a mesmerising display against eventual champions Liverpool.

Chelsea are aiming for a top-four finish to qualify for next season's Champions League and currently sit third in the table.
