Billy Gilmour returns to Scotland under-21 fold as Chelsea star battles back to fitness

Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour has been added to the Scotland Under-21 squad for next month's European Championship qualifier double header.

The 19-year old starlet has missed out on the last two gatherings after he was ruled out with a serious knee injury sustained in July.

But after communication with Chelsea, Scot Gemmill has been able to call the schemer into his plans for matches against Croatia and Greece in the final two games of group 4.

The Scotland kids are just a point behind Czech Republic in the battle to reach the tournament with a game in hand.

And Gemmill has described the star's return as a serious boon to the nation's qualification hopes.

Gemmill said: “Billy Gilmour’s inclusion in the squad is a great boost ahead of our games next month as he returns from his injury.

“We’ve been in communication with Chelsea regarding his rehabilitation and I’d like to thank them for their assistance and making their player available. I’m delighted his next step in recovery is being called up to the 21s squad.

“He picked up an injury in July but he’s recovered well and we know his experience with the 21s will not only aid us in our two games but also help Billy in his return."
