Billy Gilmour has signed a new four-year deal to keep him at Chelsea until the summer of 2023, less than a fortnight after the Scottish teenager made his competitive first-team debut.
The attacking midfielder was a late substitute in the draw against Sheffield United, becoming the first Scot to play for the club since 2002.
And now he has signed a new contract as Chelsea seek to secure their best young players to long-term agreements.
"It’s really exciting for me and my family to sign this four-year deal with the club," Gilmour told the club website after signing the new deal.
"Frank [Lampard] has come in and everyone is buzzing, training is really good and there’s a high standard to everything we do. There are exciting times ahead and hopefully I can work hard to get more opportunities as well.
"It was amazing to make my debut and for the gaffer to show his trust in me in a tight game. A draw wasn’t the result we wanted but he showed his faith in me and I thank him for that. Now I need to make sure it wasn’t just a one-off and keep showing him I’ve got a lot more to give."
Gilmour, who joined the club from Rangers in 2017, follows Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, Jamie Cumming and Marc Guehi in agreeing contract extensions this summer.
Despite injuring a groin while in action for Scotland Under-21s last week, Chelsea say that Gilmour could play a part in Friday night's PL2 fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James are also set to feature for Andy Myers's side as they regain fitness following injuries last season.
