Billy Gilmour pictured at Glenafton pre-season as ex-Rangers kid gets ready for big Brighton season

Billy Gilmour has been pictured putting in the hard graft at Glenafton as they returned to pre-season training.

The West of Scotland outfit were put through their paces as preparations for the new season begin. The club announced on social media that all new players were in attendance and they were joined by a special guest in the shape of the Scotland international and English Premier League midfielder.

The 22-year-old is fresh off the back of international duty with Steve Clarke' s men as the national team picked up a stunning comeback win on the road at Norway before defeating Georgia at a soaked Hampden Park. That result has the Tartan Army dreaming of the Euro 2024 finals in Germany next summer after starting the group campaign with four wins from four. It's set to be a massive season at club level for Gilmour with Brighton entering the Europa League for the first time in their history.

Roberto De Zerbi handed the midfielder his big break towards the end of last season and he hasn't looked back with plenty of minutes bagged in a game-changing point in his Seagulls career after struggling early on for minutes due to the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo. Alexis has already departed the club for a move to league rivals Liverpool while talk over Caicedo rumbles on with a huge transfer expected to take place this summer.

That could open the door even further for Gilmour to cement his spot in the starting XI in what would be a massive boost to both the player and Scotland with big games to come in the coming months.

Posting a picture of the former Rangers and Chelsea kid on social media in the Glenafton gear, the club wrote: "Pre-Season training kicked off for the Glens tonight with players being put through their paces.

"All our new signings were in attendance as well as a familiar face to Glens fans, @ScotlandNT internationalist and @OfficialBHAFC player @billygilmourrr

"We look forward to our first pre season fixture on Saturday at St Rochs, and the players and management would all like to wish @billygilmourrr all the best for the upcoming season with Brighton, and we look forward to welcoming him to a game soon."
