Billy Gilmour OUT of Croatia Euro 2020 clash after positive Covid test as Scotland dealt severe blow

Scotland have been rocked on the eve of their massive showdown against Croatia after Billy Gilmour tested positive for Covid-19.

The Chelsea starlet was a standout on his full international debut against England at Wembley as he helped Steve Clarke’s men secure a 0-0 draw.

That result boosted Scotland’s chances of a last-16 spot at Euro 2020 and Gilmour’s performance saw him come in for massive praise.

But Clarke will now have to do without the 20-year-old following the news that he returned a positive coronavirus test as he goes into self isolation for 10 days.

The SFA confirmed the news in a statement ahead of the pre-match press conference for the Group D match against the 2018 World Cup runners-up at Hampden.

However, no other members of Clarke’s squad have been identified as close contacts.

A statement released by the SFA said: “The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland National Team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow’s UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden.”
