Billy Gilmour makes hilarious admission about his Chelsea Premier League debut

Billy Gilmour has shot to fame with not just Chelsea fans but football supporters around the Premier League.

The 18-year-old was superb in the FA Cup against Liverpool, and then followed it up with his first Premier League start when he starred in the 4-0 win over Everton.

Gilmour joined the Blues from Rangers as a 16-year-old and has been part of the first team squad for the majority of the campaign.

The Scotland U21 international is now expected to play a big part of the team for the rest of the season when it starts up again after the recent suspension.

Coronavirus: WHO says Europe now 'the epicentre of the pandemic'

Gilmour has taken his chance with injuries and suspension, but his Chelsea debut came as a bit of a surprise when he came on against Sheffield United.

The youngster played the last six minutes of the match at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues letting a two-goal lead slip in a 2-2 draw.

But Gilmour admits that he never got the hint that he might feature in the match back in August.

"I never expected it at all," he told the BBC’s MOTDx programme. "I thought I was going to be with the Under-23s all season but then I went on pre-season with the first team and did really well.

"I came back and was training with them a lot and then the gaffer put me in the squad for Sheffield United. I was buzzing obviously. He asked if my family were coming down, which they were, and he said right that’s good but I never took the hint!"
