Billy Gilmour makes Chelsea debut as Frank Lampard shows his faith in Scotland starlet

Billy Gilmour's remarkable rise has continued as Frank Lampard handed the midfielder his senior Chelsea debut.

The 18-year-old was a second-half substitute as the Blues boss put his faith in the teenager during a 2-2 Premier League draw with Sheffield United.

The former Rangers youngster replaced goalscorer Tammy Abraham with eight minutes to play at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea were denied victory in the dying stages via a Kurt Zouma on-goal.

Scotland U-21 star Gilmour made the bench for the Super Cup Final defeat to Liverpool earlier this term without being introduced.

He was involved in Chelsea's pre-season preparations having impressed hugely following a 2017 move from Ibrox.

Lampard praised the youngster ahead of the season starting and urged him to push on towards the first-team.

He said: "Billy Gilmour has had a brilliant trip.

"As a young lad, the personality he has shown on this trip to play two games at the level he has played them is great.

"I just hope Billy pushes on with that this season."
