Billy Gilmour makes Chelsea debut as former Rangers prospect given the nod by Frank Lampard

Scotland U-21 star Billy Gilmour has been given his Chelsea debut by new boss Frank Lampard.

The former Rangers prospect was a second-half substitute for the Blues in their pre-season friendly against Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

The 18-year-old has been pictured training with the first team this summer as he continues to climb the ladder at Stamford Bridge.

And now he's been handed a taste of senior football, playing alongside the likes of Davide Zappacosta, Kurt Zouma and Tiemoue Bakayoko in Lampard's first game in charge.

Gilmour made an instant impact following his half-time introduction, forcing a save and having another effort ruffle the side netting within minutes of his arrival.

He swapped Glasgow for London in 2017 and his reputation as one of the most exciting Scottish talents in years has continued to grow.

He also starred at international level for Scot Gemmell's U-21 side at the Toulon Tournament in 2018, scooping Young Player of the Tournament aged only 16.

On Tuesday, the teenager offered an insight into working under Chelsea legend Lampard after he took over from Maurizio Sarri as manager.

"The first few days under the gaffer has been really good, hard working," Gilmour said.

"A lot of running, but obviously it's the first time away with the first team, so it has been really good and a great experience for me."
