Norwich City have announced that Kenny McLean is OUT of Euro 2020, potentially opening up a space for Billy Gilmour or Ryan Gauld.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke is already without Ryan Jack for the tournament after the Rangers man was forced to go under the knife for a calf problem.
And there's another casualty in midfield as McLean suffered knee ligament damage.
Norwich said in a statement: " Kenny McLean is set to be out of action for a period of 12 weeks following confirmation of a knee ligament injury.
"The Scottish midfielder was forced from the field of play following a heavy challenge in the 52nd minute of City’s 2-2 Sky Bet Championship draw away at Barnsley.
"Subsequent scans and further assessments have since revealed significant damage to the medial collateral ligament in McLean’s right knee.
"McLean will now undergo further assessment with an orthopaedic consultant to ascertain a management and rehabilitation plan for the injury.
"The injury will rule McLean out of Scotland’s upcoming UEFA European Championship campaign."
While the injury robs Clarke of a player who would have been a stick-on for Euro 2020 there's plenty of competition in midfield.
Chelsea midfielder Gilmour has long been touted for a senior call and has broken back into the Stamford Bridge first team in recent weeks.
In addition David Turnbull was a rare bright spark for Celtic in a poor campaign while Ryan Gauld is impressing in Portugal.
The former Dundee United youth has eight goals and seven assists in the Portuguese top flight for Farense this season.
