Billy Gilmour handed grim Norwich future clue as defiant Daniel Farke sends coded squad message

Outcast Billy Gilmour may be forced to wait even longer for his Norwich chance with Daniel Farke sticking to his guns over team selection.

The Scotland wonderkid may be the first name on Steve Clarke's team sheet but isn't getting a look in at Carrow Road.

The 20-year-old has been the standout young talent at Chelsea following his Stamford Bridge breakthrough.

However, Thomas Tuchel sent him on loan to the Canaries to work under trusted friend Farke.

Norwich have endured a winless start to the season and being on course for one of the worst English Premier League points returns ever after the 2-1 defeat to Leeds.

The loss was the fifth league game in a row in which Gilmour was left out altogether and it leaves Norwich cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

Fans are scratching their heads over Gilmour's lack of involvement, but following the latest defeat the German boss insists his current starters can get it right on Saturday against Brentford.

Farke insists the players need to show their quality on the training park and translate it to games, rather than for him to switch things up.

He has hinted that he will adopt the same football philosophy going into the clash with The Bees - which would see the Scottish playmaker sidelined again.

When quizzed over his team selection, he told the Norwich club website: "The topic is that whatever setup we have, whether it's many offensive players or more defensive, we have to use in difficult games against top sides is to show quality in both boxes.

"After a loss at home against Leeds, it's not the time to give some fighting messages. We will speak a bit less and work a bit more.

"If you don't have the quality and financial possibilities to buy high quality players at both ends of the pitch then you have to work harder on the training pitch, which is what we should do now.

"Brentford away is quite a similar game against a side in the bottom half of the table.

"We are always competitive in these games. If we can find this quality on the training pitch then there's no doubt we'll have chances to win these types of games. My lads deserve many compliments for the work ethic and unity that they put in."
