Steven Reid has challenged Billy Gilmour to turn up at Scotland’s Euros training camp next week with a Champions League winners’ medal in his luggage.
The Scotland coach admitted the squad will be glued to the TV as Gilmour’s Chelsea take on Manchester City for European football’s biggest club prize.
Gilmour, 19, is likely to be on Chelsea’s bench for the all-England showdown and Reid knows his Scotland team-mates will all be cheering him on from a distance.
Reid said: “We’ll all be watching. It would be amazing to have another Champions League winner joining the squad.
“I remember it with Andy (Robertson) when Liverpool had their Champions League success and even their league success.
“It does bring a real buzz to the squad. Players are obviously proud of the individuals who get to finals like that and pick
up silverware.
“That rubs off on the squad in general. It’s great to have guys playing at that level, setting an example and leading by that example.
“When you’re winning in elite competitions it can only drive the standards in the whole camp and help raise everyone’s games.

“So it would be fantastic if Billy could become a Champions League winner.
“It’s disappointing for Scott (McTominay) he ended up on the wrong side of penalties with United the other night.
“But it’s great to have players performing in these huge games for top clubs. It’s about having that strength in depth, players who are at real top clubs – and they’re not just there, they’re performing at a really top level.
“We saw that, especially with Scott in that midfield position the other night.
“He’s going from strength to strength. As time goes on he looks like one of the first names on the teamsheet in that starting 11, not only holding his own but standing out at a really high level.
“Watching him the last couple of years in squads I’ve been involved in, he has all the attributes you need in the modern game.
“The athleticism, the pace, the power, the ability to drive forward, he can play in a variety of different positions.
“And again in these sorts of situations and tournament football that’s a useful thing to have, players who can play in a few different positions.
“He looks in great shape and had a fantastic performance the other night in an unfortunate result for them.”
