Billy Gilmour hailed by Norwich fans as Scotland hero rewards new boss Dean Smith faith

Billy Gilmour has been hailed by Norwich City fans after the loanee helped his side earn their first home win of the season.

The Scotland star was starting in the Premier League for the first time in nine weeks after being exiled by former boss Daniel Farke.

Lots was said about Gilmour's future at the club, with talk previously of Chelsea recalling him if he was continually overlooked but the stats prove that he didn't disappoint in Dean Smith's first game in charge of the Canaries.

Despite being a bit part player at club level this season, Gilmour has been a standout for Scotland and played a key part in wins over Moldova and Denmark during the international break.

That form clearly caught the eye of former Aston Villa manager Smith and it's paid off for him.

Norwich fans were quick to take to Twitter to praise the midfielder.

One said: "Farke would still be in a job if he’d played him every week."

While another said: "See what happens when you actually play him."

This just shows how crucial the on-loan Chelsea man could be to Norwich's survival hopes.
