Cesc Fabregas believes Billy Gilmour has the key quality young players need to thrive at the top.
He insists the Scotland U-21 star's character is exactly right as he urged him to seize his big chance at Chelsea .
Gilmour earned rave reviews from his assured midfield display in a 7-1 Carabao Cup win over Grimsby Town on Wednesday night.
The 18-year-old made his first competitive start under boss Frank Lampard and completed 90 minutes in the rout at Stamford Bridge.
And he has a huge fan in former Chelsea, Barcelona and Arsena l star Fabregas.
The Spanish World Cup winner heaped praise on the former Rangers kid and hopes to see more of him this season.
Fabregas wrote on Twitter: "He played amazing tonight. Personality is the most important at this age and he’s got it all right.
"Now time to keep learning and taking advantage of these games to prove the coach he’s good enough."
Blues manager Lampard was in full agreement with Fabregas, insisting Gilmour dominated the rout from midfield.
He said: "'It was pleasing on a lot of levels. It was not complete.
"But I'm pleased some players who have not been playing so many minutes played, some debuts, and the young lads who came on improved the team which was nice. It's nice to get that first home win.
"I thought Billy Gilmour ran the game from midfield, and (Marc) Guehi was solid. They've been outstanding this year.
"Gilmour was possibly the best player on the pitch. He moves the ball at a pace, every pass he hits is punchy and into people's feet, so I'm delighted for him."
