Billy Dodds makes Alfredo Morelos transfer prediction as former Rangers star points to 'mindset' change

Billy Dodds reckons Steven Gerrard may seriously consider a big-money offer for Alfredo Morelos.

The Rangers boss has confessed he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to hang onto the popular Colombian hitman if a serious bid is lodged with the club before the beginning of the 2020-21 campaign. Gerrard wants him to stay and Dodds believes Morelos has the goalscoring abilities to help Rangers end the title dominance of Celtic.

With talk of French side Rennes interested, prices mentioned are around the £15million mark.

Ex- Scotland star Dodds said: “If they get that sort of money, I’d certainly be thinking of cashing in.

“So if that kind of money comes in, and I’m not sure it will, if I was Gerrard, I’d cash in and try to go another direction in stopping Celtic winning 10 in a row.

“There was a time when Gerrard was saying, ‘No chance. I don’t care what sort of bid it is. He’s playing so well for us and is so important to us’.

“But that’s when the form was good. So I’m sure the manager’s mindset is changing.

“Rennes said they’ll pay £15m for him and there are other clubs in Qatar. I’m not so sure clubs are in a position to pay that sort of money just now, so that’s me saying there’s a good chance of him being at Rangers still.”

Dodds has no doubts an in-form Morelos is the ideal striker when it comes to leading the attack. But he also has concerns having once said he felt the hitman could win or lose a title.

He told BBC Scotland: “I still stand by that. Because his brilliance can score you so many goals. And his suspensions can throw away so many points.”

Gerrard stated clearly he’d like to keep Morelos as his squad attempt to stop Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid.

But the Rangers boss admitted the situation may be complicated if a bulky offer is made.

He said: “What you want me to say is, whether he’ll be here next year. That’s the million-dollar question.”
