Billy Connolly shows off tattoo tribute to wife Pamela as he gets Covid-19 jab

Sir Billy Connolly has received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, his wife has confirmed.

The 78-year-old comedian, who is living with Parkinson's, received his first jab on Thursday at a medical facility in Florida.

Billy's wife Pamela Stephenson took to social media to express her relief that her husband had finally been able to receive his first inoculation, out of two jabs required.

In the snap, which Pamela shared with her 57,000 Twitter followers, Billy was pictured sitting in the medical facility with a white N95 face mask on.

The iconic Scottish star donned a pair of round glasses, black t-shirt and had his long locks tied back as he sat for the picture following his jab.

Billy had rolled up his left sleeve to show off his tattooed arm with its intricate tribute to Pamela, with her name inscribed inside a heart surrounded by a blue swallow.

"Thank God... Billy had his first Covid vaccine today!" Pamela added in her tweet.

Pamela's post was quickly flooded with messages from Billy's fans, who expressed their joy at the news that his vaccination process was underway.

"Glad he is being looked after well, he deserves it as do you. Much love to you both," wrote one fan.

"He’s a treasure and must be protected at all costs. Love to you and Billy. Stay safe," added a second.

A third added: "Could you give him a hug from all of us please?"

Billy Connolly shot to fame in the 60s and boasts an incredible career on stage and screen - including appearances in over 50 films.

The comedy star was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2013, before later declaring that his days of stand-up are over.

In 2020, he revealed that he was stepping even further away from the spotlight and will instead be focusing on his health and family life in Florida.

Billy joins a growing list of celebrities that have shared their experience of receiving the Covid-19 vaccination on social media.

Sir David Attenborough, Sir Ian McKellen, Prue Leith and the Queen are just a few of the well known figures that have already received their jabs.
