Billy Connolly says Glasgow fans are like 'relatives' and slap him on the back when he visits

Billy Connolly now sees his Glasgow fans as his relatives and says they slap him on the back when he returns home.

The Scots comedian spoke of his love for his hometown and says he's got a "funny fame" in the city.

He added: "I'm now a relative of yours. People slap me on the back, and pull my hat over my eyes.

"It's just friendship - they know me now, and I know them."

The 76-year-old spoke about when he first went public with his Parkinson's disease diagnosis.

He said his first appearance undoubtedly sent his stock into the stratosphere.

Adding: "I signed an autograph for a Chinese guy at Heathrow and when I got back to Glasgow, the whole airport foyer applauded."

Sir Billy Connolly says sex abuse victims should be encouraged to forgive their tormentors

Earlier this year, the comic, known as the Big Yin , announced his retirement from touring.

When asked how he was by interviewer Luke Rix-Standing from Press Association, he said: "I'm OK today.

"I have bad days when I shake a lot and I can't put my money in my wallet. I know it's going to get worse, but I'll take it as it comes."

Yesterday the comedian encouraged victims of sexual abuse to forgive the people who targeted them.

Connolly – who was sexually abused during childhood by his father – said he had been “released” from the trauma after deciding to forgive.

He said victims should open up about what they suffered and try to forgive the perpetrators as a way of moving on with their lives.

He also insisted people should feel no shame about what happened to them.

Connolly said: “I got rid of it by talking about it. I just unleashed it on the public and it’s their's to deal with now. I’m glad I did it.

“When you forgive the people for what they did to you, it releases you.”
