Sir Billy Connolly’s wife has told of her pride in him after he released his latest art collection.
Pamela Stephenson said six drawings completed by the comedian in recent months were “extraordinary”.
She compared the 77-year-old, who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease, to French artist Henri Matisse, who turned to creating cut paper collages when ill health left him unable to paint in his later years.
The latest instalment of Connolly’s Born on a Rainy Day series has been unveiled by gallery bosses at Castle Fine Art in London.
The collection features six limited-edition prints signed by the Big Yin and showcases his trademark sense of humour.
The drawings include Malkie’s Day Off, which shows a multi-coloured obese man holding a kite, and another features sausages dangling from a tree.
There is also a square-headed man standing on the edge of a boat in a piece called Purgatory and a soldier holding a shield in a drawing entitled Rebel Without A Sword.
Pamela, 70, tweeted: “Extraordinary. Billy has achieved what I thought only Matisse could do – a whole new style of creative work in his later years. So proud.”
Castle Fine Art said the works reflect “Billy’s idiosyncratic, no-holds-barred comedy”.
