Billy Connolly is 'near the end' – but he's not scared of death

Billy Connolly has revealed he is “near the end” of his life as he opened up about his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

The Scottish comedian, who was diagnosed with the neurological disorder in 2013, spoke about his condition in the second part of his BBC documentary series Made In Scotland.

Connolly, 76, said he can feel his life “slipping away,” but insisted he is not scared.

“My life, it’s slipping away and I can feel it and I should,” he said, according to the Daily Mirror. “I’m 75, I’m near the end. I’m a damn sight nearer the end than I am the beginning.

“But it doesn't frighten me, it’s an adventure and it is quite interesting to see myself slipping away.”

Connolly said he is feeling the effects of the degenerative disease, with his hearing and balance suffering.

He continued: “As bits slip off and leave me, talents leave and attributes leave. I don't have the balance I used to have, I don't have the energy I used to have. I can't hear the way I used to hear, I can't see as good as I used to. I can't remember the way I used to remember.”

Connolly, nicknamed The Big Yin, was dealt a double blow in 2013 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer, for which he underwent surgery.

Connolly’s new show will see him return to his hometown of Glasgow where he was a welder before becoming a revered comedian.

The show, which was made before his 76th birthday in November 2018, features contributions from stars including Eddie Izzard, Tracey Ullman and Micky Flanagan.
