Staff were delighted to welcome back Billy on his big day, and shared the visit on social media, writing: "A special day for a special man.

"Thank you for choosing to come back to Jessie biscuit to celebrate your 80th birthday. From everyone at Jessie Biscuit, a huge happy birthday, Sir Billy Connolly."

The visit was met with warm praise from fans. One person on Facebook said: "Brilliant endorsement by Sir Billy of a great little coffee shop. Well done Jessie Biscuit. Happy Birthday, Sir Billy."

Another said: "A special day for a special person."

A third wrote: "This is wonderful to see. Happy Birthday. Lovely from team Jessie Biscuit."

The comic was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease while undergoing surgery for early-stage prostate cancer in 2013 and officially retired from live comedy five years later.
