Bills’ Micah Hyde says September matchup against Patriots isn’t a measuring stick

For the first time since 2011, the Buffalo Bills started their season off 3-0.

They are currently the only threat to the New England Patriots in the AFC East, with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets sitting at 0-3. Buffalo has faced three teams with losing records, and they will play their first game this season against a contender.

The Patriots are heading into Buffalo on Sunday, and one team will walk away with the first blemish on their record. But, will this be a test on whether this Bills team is the real deal or not? Micah Hyde doesn’t believe so.

“Obviously, you want to play the best,” Hyde said. “It’s not a measuring stick for us, at all, in September — you can’t win a Super Bowl in September. We’re 3-0, trying to get to [4-0] and that’s all that matters.”

It’s a smart approach, and it’s one that many AFC East opponents have refused to take in the past.

For New England, this will be the first real test to play an opponent with a winning record. The Patriots dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 33-3 rout, and followed up with what seemed to be effortless victories against the Dolphins and Jets. If there will be any challenge within the division this year, it looks like Buffalo will provide it.

Cole Beasley followed up and piggybacked on Hyde’s response.

“There’s nothing that’s really been accomplished so soon in the season,” Beasley said. “We could win our first eight games, lose the rest and not make the playoffs. You can’t really think about recognition or anything like that, you really just have to take it one game at a time.”

This humble mentality should lead to a great game on Sunday.
