Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was the eighth quarterback selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, going in the fifth round to the Buffalo Bills.
Buffalo is a surprising landing spot for Fromm, for two reasons.
Reason one being that the Bills have a pretty crowded quarterback room as it is. Josh Allen is the definite starter, and then Matt Barkley and Davis Webb are also on the roster.
The second reason that the pick came as a surprise is that Buffalo is not necessarily known for ideal football weather, and Fromm struggled playing in inclement weather at Georgia last year.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who texted with Bills general manager Brandon Beane, the Bills actually had no no intentions of drafting Fromm.
But with an experienced signal caller like him being available in the fifth round, it was too good to pass up on.
“He wasn’t planning to draft Jake Fromm, but he was on the board and thought he was too good to pass up,” Mortensen said on ESPN. “Even though his physical attributes don’t fit with that Buffalo climate, they are happy to have a guy like that in their quarterback room.”
