Bills DE Shaq Lawson: Taylor Lewan is ‘a fake tough guy’

The Tennessee Titans obviously weren’t satisfied with their performance as a team in Sunday’s 14-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Nissan Stadium.

But members of the team weren’t the only ones vocal about their shortcomings.

Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson didn’t hold back when he was asked about Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan, who returned to the field for the first time this year after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy for performance-enhancing drugs.

“We knew what his weakness was — he gives up inside moves and this was an inside game. He’s a fake tough guy… he was quiet today.”

It wasn’t Lewan’s best day – he was responsible for the first penalty of the game: a holding call that took back a huge gain from a Delanie Walker reception that would have instantly placed the Titans in Bills territory on the first play of the drive.

But the game also highlighted that the offensive line needs to steadily improve as a unit, and that having the Pro Bowler back isn’t going to solve everything.

“We have to be better, and that’s myself included. Upstairs, coaches, players — everybody has to be better. That’s gotta be consistent… it’s getting out of hand,” Lewan said after the game.

The Titans will need to see this improvement Lewan speaks of to even out their record as they face the Denver Broncos in Mile High Stadium next week.
