Billions wiped off Coca Cola value after Cristiano Ronaldo Euro 2020 action

Billions have been wiped from Coca Cola's market value after Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo's actions at the European Championship.

The Portuguese icon was speaking in a press conference ahead of the defending champions' victory over Hungary on Tuesday, where he scored a brace, and went viral ahead of the clash.

Taking his seat to speak to the press, Ronaldo moved two bottles of Coca Cola that were in front of his seat out of view.

He then declared 'drink water' and displayed a water bottle, before muttering 'Coca Cola' with disdain - and his actions were followed by a significant drop in share value.

The Guardian reports that the share price of Coca Cola fell by 1.6%, a market value totalling a whopping $4bn being wiped.

Coca-Cola’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 almost immediately after Ronaldo’s gesture, a 1.6% dip. The market value of Coca-Cola went from $242bn to $238bn – a drop of $4bn.

Coca Cola, an official sponsor of Euro 2020, replied on Tuesday with a statement where they said 'everyone is entitled to their drink preferences' with 'different tastes and needs'.

A Euros spokesman added: "Players are offered water, alongside Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, on arrival at our press conferences."

The actions were repeated by United midfielder Paul Pogba following France's win over Germany, who removed a Heineken beer bottle.
