Billionaire Kanye West splashes out on childhood home where he grew up with dear late mum

Newly named billionaire Kanye West has purchased his childhood home where he grew up with late mum Donda.

The 42 year old rapper, who's wealth is estimated to be around $1.26 billion by Forbes, splashed out around $225,000 on the property in Chicago's South Shore neighbourhood, according to WGN9's real estate reporter Dennis Rodkin.

It will also require at least $60,000 in repairs.

Kanye is actually buying the house back - having previously done so under a charity named for mum Donda.

Donda's House Inc. bought the property in 2016, but after Kanye suffered a major fall-out with fellow rapper, charity creative director and childhood pal Rhymefest, he cut ties.

Rhymefest then announced amid the bitter feud that it would be used as the charity's HQ - some years later, that plan has failed and the house has been left in a state of derilection.

Donda died in 2007 following complications with a cosmetic procedure.

She bought it in the 1980s, selling it in 2004.

During her time there she is said to have acted as mentor to Rhymefest - real name Che Smith - introducing her to her son.

Their friendship fell apart in 2018 when he got into a social media fight with Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian-West.

Kim wrote at the time: "You're over leveraging Kanye's name & asked Kanye to donate money to u so stop w you fake community politics & lies."

That wasn't all from Kim, later adding: "Truth is you haven't been able to sustain the foundation.

"You better believe I will make it my mission to take Donda's House from you and let my children run it the way it should be run!"

Rhymefest denied the accusations and said he'd change the charity's name.

Kanye's not the only one of the Kardashian-Jenner bunch to have reached a billion - Kim's sister Kylie was named the world's youngest self-made billionaire for the second year in a row, aged just 22.
