Billionaire Asda brothers take major stake in sportswear firm - and move its headquarters to Manchester

The billionaire owners of Asda are to move sportswear brand Castore's headquarters to Manchester after taking a major stake in the company, according to reports.

It's understood hundreds of jobs could be created in the next 24 months as a result of the move.

Self-made Mohsin and Zuber Issa are understood to have first ploughed money into the brand in March 2020, through their Jersey-based Monte Group, reports the Times.

Castore - founded six years ago - has a partnership with tennis player Andy Murray and Scottish Premiership champions Rangers and is currently based in Liverpool.

It recently announced plans to open five new stores within six months after opening stores on London's King Road and in Liverpool One.

A 13-year lease has been signed to occupy all workspace in One Central Street across five floors, reports BusinessLive.

A further 300 jobs are expected to be created in Manchester in the next two years, the company expects.

Its revenue this year is predicted to hit £100m.

The Issa brothers announced the purchase of Asda in October 2020. They also own the Blackburn-based EG Group, the operators of 395 petrol stations in the UK.

They bought their first petrol station a mile or so from Bury town centre.

The EG Group has been contacted for comment by BusinessLive.
