Billie Eilish unveils ‘new era’ with blonde hairstyle in record-breaking Instagram post

Billie Eilish has broken an Instagram record after waving goodbye to the signature look from her last album campaign.

Fans on TikTok had been wondering if the singer’s black hair with green roots was a wig, and that she was about to reveal a new style for a new music era.

At the Grammys, Eilish wore various bandanas and hats that covered her hairline. She won Record of the Year for her single “Everything I Wanted”, and performed the song during the ceremony.

Eilish then posted a video on Wednesday 17 March where she revealed that she had indeed been wearing a wig, and is now blonde.

“Did you guess correctly?” she wrote in the caption beside the video, which seemed to recreate Rita Hayworth’s iconic hair-flip scene from the 1946 film Gilda.

The pop star’s following photo of her new blonde hair received a record of one million likes on Instagram in just six minutes, breaking the record previously held by Selena Gomez after her 26th birthday post in 2018, the BBC reports.

Eilish shared the photo on Instagram with the caption: “Pinch me.” She later added to her Stories with the captions “blonde” and “bye green”.

At the time of writing, Eilish’s photo had 16.5 million likes, pushing it into the top 10 most-liked Instagram posts of all time.

Among the fellow artists to post their approval was Megan Thee Stallion and Ashnikko.

Before the release of her Apple documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, she had told fans that she planned on changing her hair style afterwards to signal “the end of an era”.

“I’m gonna give you a new era,” she promised.
