Billie Eilish reveals Mel C gave her advice on handling fame and being 'present'

Singer Billie Eilish has revealed that she is trying to be “as present as possible” amidst her meteoric rise to stardom, with some help from Spice Girl Mel C. The pair met in March when Sporty Spice watched Eilish perform live in London and gave the Bad Guy singer some advice on handling fame.

Eilish appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! yesterday, following the news that she had been nominated for six Grammy Awards this year.

The 17 year old singer touched on the difficulties of being famous, explaining that she had “a mindset you have to put yourself in” before she could go out in public.

She explained, “If you’re like, you know what I’m just gonna tell myself it’s fine if I get totally mobbed if I try to go to CVS. You just tell yourself, fine, and then you’re good.”

Eilish continued that had started living her life as if she “suddenly woke up and this was my life”, adding, “What would I be like, ‘oh my god’ that right now I’m taking for granted?’”

When asked by the host Jimmy Kimmel who had helped her come to that realisation, she said that she had come to it on her own - with the help of stars including Mel C. She said, “I mean I heard a couple of things from certain people, like Sporty Spice was talking to me.”

Eilish hinted that Mel C had told her some things that “may have been a secret”, but elaborated on how their meeting had changed her world view.

She said, “She just was saying how she was on stage with all the girls and they were all just smiling at each other. She was saying it was such a magical moment.”

“She was saying like at the beginning and the middle, it's like you work, work, work, work, and you’re huge, huge, huge, and then it's done," Eilish continued.

"And it's like ''Oh. Like where did that go?'" Eilish said, "And I just thought about that, 'Oh, my god, I'm in that part of my life [and] in the future I'm going to be like, ‘damn, I wish I could...'"

Mel C met Billie Eilish in March, after attending the singer’s sold out gig at the O2 Shepherd's Bush. She shared a picture of the pair meeting backstage on Instagram, with the Spice Girl wearing a ‘You Go Girl’ shirt, and called Eilish an “extraordinary talent.”

She said she had “never seen [O2 Shepherd’s Bush] bounce like that” during Eilish’s performance and continued, “Billie is an extraordinary talent and seeing young girls screaming with her every move and singing every word of her lyrics, gave me goosebumps. Billie Eilish you are a phenomenon and I salute you.”

“I can’t wait to see what the future holds!” she finished.

Eilish recently released a new song called Everything I Wanted online, which has garnered over 18 million views on YouTube since dropping on November 14. She has been nominated for several Grammy Awards next year, which include Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
