Bill Turnbull says 'it was a pleasure' to be back on TV as he bows out of GMB

Bill Turnbull expressed his joy at being back on TV as he shared a post celebrating his recent stint on breakfast show Good Morning Britain alongside co-host Susanna Reid.

Sitting next to his former BBC Breakfast colleague Susanna, Bill has taken the place of Adil Ray from Monday, May 24, and will stay until Wednesday, May 26, in a guest host slot.

Sharing a snap on social media he said: "Big thanks to @susannareid100, everyone @gmb, and all those watching who sent such lovely messages this week. A huge pleasure to be back on the telly. Thank you for having me."

Susanna, 50, and Bill, 65, co-presented BBC Breakfast from 2003 up until Susanna left in 2014 before Bill left the breakfast show in 2016 after 15 years at the helm.

The 65-year-old has sat in Piers Morgan's former seat this week after the controversial host abruptly quit the ITV programme in March.

Piers stormed off the daytime show after refusing to apologise for remarks he made about disbelieving Meghan Markle over her comments regarding her feeling suicidal.

Since then, GMB has been filling Piers' seat with an assortment of presenters, with ITV yet to confirm who will be his permanent replacement.

Ahead of his appearance on GMB, Bill said that he was "not thinking" about Piers while presenting the show.

Fans of the GMB have loved Bill and Susanna hosting together and have taken to Twitter to share their appreciation.

"Adore Bill Turnbull. Professional, measured and incredibly intelligent. @susannareid100 can you please get him to guest host again soon," tweeted one viewer.

Two years after deciding to quit BBC Breakfast Bill confirmed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The star – who fronted news programme for decades – has been undergoing treatment since his diagnosis and is keeping an active and positive outlook despite his cancer being incurable.
